Rachel Camp
2026
Rachel Camp is not only the most prolific scorer in East Rutherford
and Rutherford County history, but also ranks among the top scorers
in NCHSAA history. Her remarkable production on the court in Bostic
from 2010 to 2014 placed her among the elite at the state level.
Born on November 5, 1995, in Forest City, Camp is the daughter of
Ramon and Michelle Camp. She made an immediate impact while
playing for the Lady Cavaliers under fellow RCSHOF member
Larry Ross. Camp earned team MVP all four seasons for the Lady
Cavaliers, leading East to a 65-29 overall record during that time.
She really came into her own as a senior. During the 2013-14 season,
she averaged 28.4 points per game, helping East to a 22-3 record
that season, earning All-County, All-Conference, and All-State honors
along the way. Off the court, Camp was recognized as a National
Honor Society student and crowned homecoming queen as a senior.
After such a storied career at East Rutherford, Camp earned a
scholarship to play for the Lady Hokies of Virginia Tech. The transition
to the college level did not slow down Camp’s scoring. As a freshman
in Blacksburg, Camp played in 32 games, making 28 starts. She
averaged 11.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per game that season. One
of the many highlights came when she garnered a monster doubledouble
versus Western Carolina, scoring a freshman record 33
points and grabbing 11 rebounds while dishing out six assists. Camp
also scored 20 or more points five other times during the 2014-15
season. She put in solid work in the classroom, also earning All-ACC
Academic Team honors.
Camp’s production dipped a bit as a sophomore, but she still played
in 27 games, averaging five points per contest. She saved the best
game for last, though, as she scored 29 points in a WNIT game vs.
Elon, the second most of any Hokie player in the postseason.
After red-shirting her junior season, Camp returned to the floor for
the 2017-18 campaign. She played in 37 games while making 27
starts. In her first start that year, Camp garnered a double-double
of 15 points and 11 rebounds vs. West Virginia. She also posted
a season-high of 25 points vs. ACC rival Miami later that year.
Camp finished the season strong, scoring in double figures in five
of the last seven games, helping Virginia Tech reach the
WNIT Championship game. During her final season in
Blacksburg, she played in 33 games, making 16 starts. Her seasonhigh
of 11 points came in a WNIT victory over VCU. Overall, Camp
scored 948 points during her college career and graduated with a
degree in Criminology and a graduate degree in Agriculture and Life
Sciences.
Camp is currently a Physical Education teacher at East Rutherford
High School, where she has coached the Lady Cavs for the past four
seasons. Camp has had success in the coaching ranks, as her teams
have reached at least the second round of the playoffs in each of
Camp’s first four seasons on the bench. Due to her accomplishments,
Camp was inducted into the East Rutherford Sports Hall of Fame in
2020.
“It’s a blessing. I’m speechless,” Camp said of being inducted into the
RCSHOF. “It was a shock, but it means a lot, being able to play here
and then come back and coach. It’s all come full circle for me.”
Camp currently lives in Forest City and has a daughter, Saige Wilkins.
